A Prototype for the Future

As part of the University of California San Francisco’s $4.3 billion Parnassus Heights expansion, StudioCraft collaborated with HDR and HdM to develop a nurse station prototype as part of a larger project. Working closely with the design team, we worked through multiple iterations of their concept to ensure every detail aligned with their vision.

A standout feature of the design is the sculptural fluted wave profile, crafted from solid surface. Rich colors and fluid shapes help create a workstation that is both practical for caregivers and visually engaging within the space.

The completed desk demonstrates the value of early collaboration between designers and fabricators. By combining technical expertise with high-level craftsmanship, StudioCraft translated an ambitious design concept into a buildable solution. This nurse station serves as a dynamic sculptural piece of custom furniture that catches light and transforms as people move through the space, while providing a functional space for caregivers to work at for years to come.
